Lebbeus Woods has returned to regular blogging and his recent post about “Dead Words” is an absolute must read.
future
Once upon a time, the future was where wondrous and terrible things were going to happen, where the present would be transformed, for better or worse, and in a sense reach fruition. The idea of the future has all but vanished from architectural conversation and discussion. Perhaps because the present is one of self-satisfaction—there is nothing to ripen and mature—and no great chances being taken that can succeed, or fail. Perhaps the future has become just another place we already know, or hope we know.

A group of UTS students, including several from the MDA, have recently submitted models to be exhibited alongside the top Australian architecture practices in the upcoming Venice Biennale.

Well done UTS!

The New York Times has recently published an article on our friend Lebbeus Woods. It is currently the feature story on their website (not for long, I’m sure).
The first line of the article by Nicolai Ourousoff (the architecture critic for the NYT) is “These are lonely times for Lebbeus Woods.” Don’t be fooled, this line is no criticism of Mr. Woods, in fact, it is much needed wake-up call for our profession. Ouroussoff successfully argues that Woods is now the only visible figure in our profession that remains truly devoted to experimentation, to crititism, to public debate.
Essential reading.

We should do this on the blank walls of the MDA Lab.

Hello all!
Tomorrow we start the Spring 2008 semester and will be welcoming some new additions to the MDA program. The semester has several exciting events in store and we will be conitually updating this blog with our progress…
So, welcome!
p.s. I’ve deleted a post with work from last semester because the Spam-bots took a particular interest in it. I will repost highlights from last semester very soon. Sorry for that.
On Friday, the MDA hosted a Generative Components User Forum at UTS. MDA Course Director and Senior Lecturer Anthony Burke co-organized the event along with Ben Doherty of RMIT and Fergus Dunn of Bentley.
Students and faculty from RMIT, QUT, UNSW, and UTS presented projects and research, as did professionals from Asabiyah, Woods Bagot, Bligh Voller Nield and ARUP.
Were you there? If so, post a comment.
We’ll post images ASAP.
